What do the Waste (England and Wales) Regulations mean for businesses?

The Waste (England and Wales) Regulations, which came into effect on 1 January 2015, apply not only to waste authorities and waste contractors, but also to businesses that produce waste.

Where it is necessary for the purpose of high quality recycling, the regulations require separate collections of waste in the form of paper, metal, plastic and glass unless it is not technically, environmentally or economically practicable.

The Environment Agency has issued a briefing note which outlines how businesses should apply the rules and the approach the agency will take to enforcement.
