Contracts for Difference Amendment Regulations 2018 – in force 24 July 2018

These Regulations are accompanied by an explanatory memorandum and partially implement consultation proposals from December 2017 on changes to the contracts for difference (CFD) regime. They amend the current 2014 Regulations to:

  • Introduce a definition of remote island wind and qualifying requirements, which will be a new technology that can compete in future CFD auctions.
  • Remove a requirement for CHP generators relating to accreditation to the combined heat and power quality assurance standard (CHPQA). The government intends to update the CHPQA to tighten efficiency requirements for new CHP plants. Removal of the reference means that the legislation will not need to be amended every time the standard is updated.
  • Make a minor adjustment to the definition of waste.

The government will publish its decisions on the other proposals of its December 2017 consultation later in 2018.
