Jeanette Burgess and Carly Thorpe recognised in O Shaped Lawyer’s inaugural O List

The O List recognises the people that have gone above and beyond and that are helping to create a world where People First really matters. The O Listers have all categorically demonstrated some or all of the ‘5 O Mindset’ of openness, opportunity, originality, ownership and optimism. They are all making a vital contribution in making the legal profession better for those who are in it, those who use it and those who are entering it.

Both Jeanette and Carly have been recognised for their active leadership role in driving Diversity & Inclusion forward within the firm. They are both members of the firm’s racial diversity committee, encouraging and inspiring people to create events and programmes to help improve Walker Morris’ racial diversity and experience for ethnic minority employees and are also members of the Stronger Together network, which is a Leeds city-wide network for racial diversity, equality and inclusion.

Both are passionate about encouraging and inspiring people from any background to excel in the legal profession and both spend a significant amount of time on mentoring and supporting events and programmes to help improve Walker Morris’ racial diversity and experience for ethnic minority employees. They have been praised for their openness in sharing the obstacles and struggles that they have personally overcome and continue to grapple with, to inspire others to continue their own legal journey.
