Walker Morris celebrates a record year of fundraising with Candlelighters

The Walker Morris Charity Committee presents cheque for £17,758.36 to Candlelighters

Representatives from the Walker Morris Charity Committee met with Brian Curran at Candlelighters in Leeds to celebrate a successful year of fundraising and to present the charity with a cheque for £17,758.36.

The funds have been raised by Walker Morris employees over the last 12 months after Candlelighters was nominated as the Firm’s ‘Charity of the Year’. The Walker Morris Charity Committee organised a range of fundraising activities that encouraged involvement from employees across the firm, including: the Leeds Abbey Dash, dress down days, bake sales, a ‘Six Nation Cycling Challenge’, the Leeds and Manchester half marathons, the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge, speed quizzing nights and the Great North Run.

The money that Walker Morris has raised will go towards helping Candlelighters continue their support for children with cancer and their families through the services it provides such as the play leaders on the ward at Leeds General Infirmary; ‘The Square’ family support centre that offers physical and emotional support to family members; and ‘The Cottage’, a new renovation project that will provide accommodation to enable families facing childhood cancer to be together.

Brian Curran, Corporate Fundraiser at Candlelighters commented:

“We have enjoyed working with Walker Morris over the past 12 months and the partnership has been a perfect example of a charity partnership. As well as raising a record amount of money for us they have helped raise our profile and given their time as volunteers at some of our events. This partnership reflects the importance of the corporate community supporting our work with children with cancer and their families.”

Louise Power from the Walker Morris Charity Committee added:

As one of the biggest law firms in Yorkshire and one the region’s largest employers, we recognise the importance of being a responsible and positive contributor to the local community. At Walker Morris our commitment to charitable work is different, we encourage our employees to nominate locally based charities that have impacted directly on their lives or that they passionately support for our ‘Charity of the Year’.

“We are delighted to have had the opportunity to work so closely with Candlelighters over the last 12 months. It has become a charity that is close to our hearts due to the support it has been able to provide for one of our employees. We are pleased to announce a record amount of funds raised for the Candlelighters and we could not have done it without their support.”
