Property development newsflash: EV charge points legislation enacted

Last month we reported that the Department for Transport had published its response to the consultation on EV charge points in residential and commercial developments – a vital step towards decarbonising England’s transport system which should help to pave the way for the mass transition to zero emission vehicles.

The Building Regulations etc. (Amendment) (England) (No. 2) Regulations 2021, which will require the installation of EV charge points and cable route infrastructure for EV charge points for new or newly renovated buildings with associated parking provision, have now been enacted and will come into force on 15 June 2022.

The Regulations include transitional provisions which provide that building work for which a building notice or an initial notice has been given to, or full plans have been deposited with, a local authority before 15th June 2022, and which has commenced before 15th June 2023, will be exempt.
