Children’s Heart Surgery Fund becomes Walker Morris’ Charity of the Year

Walker Morris kicks off another year of fundraising with the Leeds Abbey Dash

Walker Morris is pleased to announce Children’s Heart Surgery Fund as its 2017 chosen ‘Charity of the Year’. The Firm kick-started its year of fundraising with the Leeds Abbey Dash on Sunday 5 November.

The 10k race set off from Wellington Street, leading up Kirkstall Road towards the Abbey on Abbey Road and back. This year’s Walker Morris running team were: Laith Bader, Kieran Craddock, Ryan Doodson, Rebecca Jackson and Tom Jackson.

The Abbey Dash marks the first major fundraising event for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund and is part of a series of planned charity events that will be taking place over the next 12 months. The Firm has also recently taken part in a Halloween dress down day and a speed quizzing evening which raised a total of £937.08 for Children’s Heart Surgery Fund. Last year the Firm raised £17,758.36 for its 2017 ‘Charity of the Year’, Candlelighters.

Louise Power from the Firm’s Charity Committee explained:

“We are delighted announce Children’s Heart Surgery Fund as our chosen ‘Charity of the Year’ for 2018. Each year we invite all our employees to vote for our ‘Charity of the Year’ and this year Children’s Heart Surgery Fund was voted overwhelmingly as our winning charity.

“The Walker Morris Charity Committee has a whole programme of fundraising activities planned for over the next 12 months to try and raise awareness and much needed funds for the charity.”

Andy McNally, Children’s Heart Surgery Fund’s Marketing Manager, added:

“We’re thrilled Walker Morris have chosen us as their Charity of the Year, and to have the support of one of the UK’s top law firms.

“They have already raised some brilliant funds and we look forward to working together over the next 12 months.”

Children’s Heart Surgery Fund supports children and adults born with congenital heart disease across Yorkshire and North Lincolnshire. The charity’s mission is to make the Leeds Congenital Heart Unit, at Leeds General Infirmary, a world class centre of excellence – providing the funding and resources needs to care for a child’s heart, mind, family and future. Children’s Heart Surgery Fund vision is to ‘support hearts for life’ and through Walker Morris’ efforts over the next twelve months we are confident the firm can assist in making this vision a reality.
