Walker Morris earns MPF Awards 2020 nomination

Walker Morris art competition receives national recognition with prestigious award nomination

Walker Morris has been shortlisted for the ‘Best Community Programme’ by the Managing Partners’ Forum Awards. The MPF Awards, now in their 18th year, highlight key contributions from leading businesses and individuals in their national operations.

As part of the move to its new double-award winning offices at 33 Wellington Street, Walker Morris launched an innovative competition in collaboration with Leeds Arts University. The competition tasked students with designing a piece of art with a ‘distinctive’ theme to reflect the Firm’s corporate mission statement. 13 winning pieces of artwork were chosen, completely filling one wall in each of the client meeting rooms with additional works providing focal points in other areas of the Firm’s new building.

The competition formed one of several charitable initiatives implemented during the move which included raising £1,100 for Martin House Children’s Hospice and £3,751 for Sunshine and Smiles.

Walker Morris’ commitment to the arts has seen the launch of numerous initiatives, both regionally and nationally. The Firm’s arts projects range from its grass-roots annual Children’s Charity Calendar Competition, to sponsorship of national art exhibitions such as bringing the Turner exhibition to Yorkshire, supporting the inaugural exhibition at London’s Saatchi Gallery, Damien Hirst’s exhibition, ‘Artist Rooms’, at Leeds Art Gallery and Ashley Jackson’s ‘Framing the Landscape’ collection at the Mall Gallery in London to name but a few.

David Smedley, Chairman at Walker Morris and judge for the competition, said:

“Supporting the arts has been central to Walker Morris and numerous initiatives have been launched to enable art to be more accessible to the broader community. At the heart of these initiatives is our Children’s Charity Calendar which is now in its 26th year. We are delighted that our efforts have been recognised through such a prestigious award.”

Hosted by comic writer and presenter, Danny Wallace, the gala dinner and ceremony will take place on the 3rd March at the London Marriott, Grosvenor Square.
