Our Real Estate team have advised Unite Students, the UK’s largest provider of student accommodation, on their latest major development in Stratford, East London. The project, which has received full planning approval, will feature a 41-storey tower with 952 beds, state-of-the-art facilities, and improvements to local infrastructure through the construction of a new entrance and exit to Stratford Underground Station.
Our team was led by Head of Real Estate George Bacon, with support from Seann Stobbs (Real Estate), Josh Kitson (Planning), and Rebecca Delaney (Planning).
This development is part of Unite Students’ broader investment strategy in Stratford, which includes the nearby Jubilee House redevelopment that Walker Morris also advised on. Combined, these projects represent a £400 million investment by Unite Students into the area.
In addition to student housing, the development will include around 10,000 sq ft of commercial space, with some of it set aside for the social enterprise You Press.
Tom Brewerton, Group Development Director at Unite Students, said: “We’re proud to announce this major new development in Stratford, which will support the local community by improving infrastructure and offering community group space.
“We’re trusted by parents, students and universities to provide high-quality, safe and affordable accommodation and this increase in bed numbers will help free up privately rented homes in the city for families.”
George Bacon added: “We’re delighted to have advised Unite Students on this significant development. This project not only enhances the availability of high-quality student accommodation but also contributes positively to the local community through infrastructure improvements and commercial space for social enterprises.”
This development will follow Unite Students’ Sustainable Construction Framework, aiming for net-zero carbon in both construction and operation, in line with their commitment to sustainability.
