Guiding clients through jargon so that risk is identified, understood and properly managed

Sally leads our Technology Group and has over 30 years’ experience helping clients with the licensing and acquisition of all types of technology.

With a particular interest in new and upcoming technological developments, Sally helps smaller Tech businesses with their contract models and supports large customers with their acquisition of strategic technology.

Sally enjoys all aspects of her work, and with new technologies constantly emerging and developing (like blockchain and AI), she says, “I feel lucky to be working in an area that throws up new and interesting challenges in terms of how to apply current law to these technologies”.  And with technology playing an increasingly important role in clients’ day-to-day operations, getting this advice right is critical.

“You do your best work for clients you know well and have built a strong relationship with”

Recognised as a leader in her field, Sally has worked with many large retail and telecoms clients, as well as being ranked as a leading individual by both Chambers & Partners and Legal 500.  Having worked on Technology and Digital matters for over 25 years, Sally brings her extensive knowledge and experience of the sector to the fore when advising clients about how to manage risk.

Asked about her approach to client work, Sally says, “there are many ways to deliver legal services, and technology is starting to have a big impact on delivery. I think you do your best work for clients you know well and have built a strong relationship with. That remains my approach after many years of working in this industry”.

Collaborative and supportive

Sally describes her working style as collaborative and supportive, and this helps her keep on top of the rapidly developing sector, where draft consultations from government and legislative changes are a constant: “Luckily, we have a brilliant support lawyer who filters a mass of information to present us with the issues that we need to get across.

This is very efficient as we can share it with the rest of the Technology & Digital Group, as well as with our clients”. It also fits well with life at Walker Morris, which has a strong entrepreneurial spirit and is ambitious to continue its growth – both things which can only be done by collaborating effectively and supporting each other.

Of her decision to become a lawyer, Sally says “I really wanted to be a librarian, but I’m too noisy, so I decided to be a lawyer instead”.  Her father and brother are also lawyers, so it must be genetic.

Making a mark

Endorsed by ‘The Best Lawyers in the United Kingdom’ directory for IT law and IP, Sally guides clients through the jargon to ensure that risk is identified, understood and properly managed.

“I am very proud of the Technology & Digital group that I lead at Walker Morris. All the members of the group are bright and engaged, and we’re making a mark on legal thinking in edge technologies”.
