Partner
Construction & Engineering
Alastair is a Partner, specialising in both contentious and non-contentious legal work in construction and engineering.
Well known for his work on complex projects and contracts across a wide range of sectors, including notable experience on project financed residential schemes and logistics developments, Alastair also advises clients in relation to contentious construction matters.
Alastair combines his excellent technical skills with an ability to provide sound commercial and strategic input at every stage of the development process.
When asked to describe how he works with clients, Alastair says, “I enjoy working with clients from the very early stage of a project. I like to make sure everything runs smoothly – from inception to completion”. This cradle to grave approach means Alastair has plenty of opportunity to build long-standing relationships with his clients, which is something he relishes.
For Alastair, it’s all about delivery for the client, and providing a first-class service no matter the task in hand. In this regard Alastair is known to be proactive, diligent and highly responsive, and of course – technically very proficient in his practice area.
Alastair understands that effective time management is a constant challenge for most people, and never more so than when trying to balance, the needs of clients, supervising a team of junior lawyers and responsibilities to his family. He manages this challenge by structuring his day as effectively and efficiently as possible to ensure each task receives his full attention.
“The key to success for both clients and Walker Morris, is having the ability to forge relationships both within and outside the firm”. Alastair is adept at this, learning as much as he can about his clients in order to provide a tailored service that meets their unique needs. There is a great deal of synergy between Alastair’s working style and life at Walker Morris, and he strives to instil the same inquisitiveness and values in the team around him.
Alastair says, “I wanted a career that would be challenging and rewarding. As a construction lawyer I’m engaged in technical work and interact on a day-to-day basis with other lawyers, but also many others including, developers, contractors, project managers, architects and engineers. No conversation or day are ever the same”.
Named as a “next generation lawyer” by Legal 500, Alastair is involved in realising the firm’s ambition of attracting, mentoring and retaining a diverse pool of talented people based solely on merit. He is involved in the firm’s Graduate Recruitment programme and is a dedicated trainee supervisor, as well as mentoring several junior lawyers.
