Head of People & Culture
Tracy is Walker Morris’ Head of People & Culture and she leads on all things people and culture. No two people are ever the same, so she has to constantly adapt to create a great place to work for everyone. Tracy finds it most rewarding to see people grow in their own way, whether that’s becoming happier at work, developing, or being promoted. Working with someone as a Trainee who progresses to Partner, for example, is her motivation.
Tracy is a people person, so her strength is interviewing and recruitment, understanding problems or issues and helping people to overcome them. (She also makes a mean Victoria sponge.)
Constant change is a challenging but exciting aspect of Tracy’s role. Her working style is to collaborate and empower her team, so they can overcome challenges. She lets everyone have a go so they can develop and grow. Helping them to take the bull by the horns but being inclusive, kind and honest.
Tracy never intended to get into HR or into a law firm—”it just happened to start with and joined WM from the medical world” she says. However, she has always worked hard, so when opportunities came along she was willing to learn and take the risk. Tracy studied her A-levels and HR degree whilst working at Walker Morris. This was a result of one Partner who believed in her, who said he saw something special, and as a result, gave Tracy the confidence to aspire to something she would never have done otherwise.
Tracy is heavily involved in D&I which is a constant source of learning. A career highlight for Tracy was being the first person in her family to get a degree and her Dad’s face “bursting with pride” at the graduation ceremony.
